The JTBA Doubles championship was conducted on Sunday March 11,2007 at Rebmans Recreation Center in Lorain, Ohio.with 41 teams .Chad Close and Earon Vollmar, both from Toledo took their 6th seed qualifying effort into match play and turned it into their first titles in JTBA competition. They both bowled extremely well together in the Baker match play and went undefeated through all four rounds. 7 games without a loss!! They reached the title match by winning against the 11th, 3rd and 2nd seeds. Jeremy Fleck of Kettering, OH and Dean Reynolds of Fairborn, OH the 2nd seeds fell to Close/Vollmar in the Semi-finals in two close games 193-181 and 219-204. The leading qualifiers Chris Creeks of Zelienople,Pa and Richard Galya Jr. North Braddock, Pa at plus 145 reached the championship match by besting the 4 seeded team of Moon Twp.PAs Ben Galloway and Erie PAs Adam Metzger 201-199, 218-199 and 216-166. In the final match Creeks could have doubled to win but his effort was for not as Close/Vollmar hung on for a 185-175 victory. High individual qualifier was runner-up Rich Galya Jr at +96. High individual game was 295 by Brice Henry of Vermillion, OH. Dean Reynolds of Fairborn also one shot from perfection with a 279. High Baker game was 278 by Justin O’Hara and James Koss of Westland, MI.
In the girls division 3 time JTBA champ Jessica Fleck, Kettering, OH and former Team USA member Kayla Bandy of Danville,Va defeated Freemont, Oh’s Heidi Sanders and Willard,Oh’s Amanda Sledge 205-180 to claim their second consecutive doubles title. Sanders/Sledge the 4th seed defeated the leading qualifiers of Ashley Stahurski of Bexley, Oh and Amanda Hammel of Pikeville, KY 211-195, 176-189 and 188-163 on their way to the final. Fleck/Bandy reaching the championship by defeating Ciara Cundiff of Columbus and JTBA title holder Joy Arrigo of Westerville, OH in a close match 224-203 and 205-193. High individual girls qualifier was 20 time JTBA titlist Lindsay Coulles of Centerville, Oh at + 78. Individual high game was by Jessica Fleck with a 259 . High Baker Game on the girls side was Feck/Bandy 224.
Our JOG winners were Kayla Bandy, Joshua Thompson and Dean Reynolds. Our next event in Cincinnati will be the last chance for 2007 Junior Gold spots. We will have three spots to award at Cherry Grove Lanes on April 22, 2007. If you or anyone you know needs a spot for Buffalo get your entry in early. The event at the Palace in Columbus will be a 2008 qualifier for Junior Gold as it falls after the May 15 cut-off.
Reminder for the year-end championships, JTBA members only, Must have bowled in 5 events and made match-play once. Also if you have attended every JTBA event this season you will be eligible.
