2011 JTBA ISALY'S COLUMBUS OPEN SUNDAY OCTOBER 9, 2011Charles Easton of Sylvania, OH. and Samantha Johnson of Wyoming, MI. ran through the field in matchplay to complete a back to back title grab!!! 87 players began the day at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus, Oh. Sunday October 9, 2011 at the 2011 JTBA Isaly's Columbus Open where Jay and Randy tried to soften up the Sport Lane condition but scores remained on the low side as one player (Kyle Cook of Centerville, OH.) was plus in the entire field!! Field averages were about the same as previous events at 166 for the girls and 172 for the boys!!! We expected scores to be higher but that was not to be as cut numbers indicated at - 106 for boys and -154 for girls. Our thanks to Isaly's for sponsoring and to Tim Voss and the staff at Sequoia for hosting! Keep in mind that Sequoia will be hosting another PBA event on February 16, 2012 so plan to attend the Pro-am and don't miss a chance to see the Pros in February!!! High Games of the event went to Trent Mitchell of Cleveland Heights, OH. a 268 and for the girls Johnson had a 238 in game 5. Johnson would win her 4th JTBA title by advancing in the semi's besting Greensburg, Pa's Ashley Howe 2-0, 200-187 and 197-170 to face Olivia Wirtz of Battle Creek, MI. who got past newcomer Austin Elliott of Cardington, OH. 2-1, 221-156, 160-170 and 220-126.
In the all Michigan final Johnson used a turkey in frames 3,4 and 5 and a 9th and 10th frame double to secure the win over Wirtz 215-157. With Johnson winning the pressure moved to Easton as they have won the same events before and Easton was up to the task as he struck passed John Boyd III of Cleveland, OH. 225-181 to face Malik Grove of West Chester, OH. Grove defeated Trent Mitchell in the semi's 180-152. It looked bad for Easton at the start as Grove had a turkey in frames 3, 4 and 5 and Easton had 2 opens to start the game!!! However "Sir Charles" the JTBA veteran would knuckle down and throw a 6 bagger trying to put the youngster away but a soft 10 in the 10th for Charles kept the match alive for Grove to punch out in the 10th for his 1st JTBA title. Going a tad high Grove left a 4 pin in the 10th enabling Charles to match Sam's back to back effort. Final score 212 to202. Next up for the JTBA the always popular 2011 JTBA Adult-Youth Championships to be held October 30, 2011 at Southwyck Lanes in Toledo, OH. We will accept the 1st 93 PAID team entries. As the event has sold out the last 3 years it would be advisable to get your entries in as soon as possible.
