Congratulations to our newest JTBA Champions Sydney Brummett of Fort Wayne, IN winning her 3rd career title and 2nd in a row and also winning his 1st JTBA title Joey Wittman of Akron, OH. Thanks to the Wright State Raider Bowling program for sponsoring this event which had 140 players on the new synthetic lanes at Beaver-Vu Bowl. Thanks to Doug Wilson and the staff for once again being great hosts!! Also thanks to Jay Young and Randy Hart for the fair but challenging 44 ft lane pattern. Jay and I were a little concerned out of the gate as Chaz Dennis of Galloway, OH. fired a perfect 300 game to start qualifying but the pattern held up well as the field averages were well with in acceptable ranges at 178 for boys and 168 for the girls. Regretfully we must report that due to USBC Sport Bowling tightening of the Sport Bowling honor score procedures we will no longer be able to award Sport Bowling honors even though we will be using Sport Certified Lane conditions! It not logisticly or financially possible for JTBA to meet the criteria for this to happen!! At certain centers it will be possible but we can't do every center that we visit. JTBA appreciates your understanding of these circumstances. High game for the girls was a fine 279 by Marissa Campbell of Brighton, MI in block 2. Cuts to advance to round 2 were -182 for the girls and -133 for the guys. After block 2 it took -128 and -10 to advance to the stepladder finals. Brummett ran the ladder in the girls finals by besting Kaila Ryan of Dayton, OH. in game 1, 213-161 and then disposing of Amanda Wess of Hubbard, Oh in game 2, 224-181 to reach the finals against "2nd place Sam" Johnson of Wyoming, MI. who has a number of 2nd place finishes in recent events. Two splits by Johnson in the 1st and 4th frames was all that Brummett needed to capture the win as she doubled twice to secure the victory. In the boys division 5th place Joe Hoover of Davison, MI would face hometown favorite Kyle Cook of nearby Centerville, OH. who along with 3rd seed Chris Via of Springfield, OH. charged to the top five in Block 2. Via rallied from the 36th spot after block 1 and Cook came from the 17th spot!!! Cook worked his way through the 1st 3 matches besting Hoover 208-129 and then Via 232-195 to face number 2 seed Bryce Postolka of Sagamore Hills, OH 191-150. Cook's ailing hand was no match for the Wittman who
lead the field all day, as Wittman started with a 5 bagger and never looked back garnering his 1st JTBA title 224-190. Next up 2011 JTBA Urbana University Blue Knights Open at Capri Lanes in Kettering, OH on September 25, 2011. Only 104 spots are available!! JTBA members will be given spots up until 7 days prior to the event and then entries will be given to non-members based on when they are paid for!! If an entry is not paid for it will not be held!!! Do not call or email and ask!!
