November 4-5, 2006

The JTBA’s second annual trip to Tim Voss’s Sequoia Pro Bowl in suburban Columbus saw a rarity as JTBA veterans Tim Pfeifer and Bethan McGeary captured their second career titles, both as #1 seeds. Special thanks to Randy Hart, Tim Voss, and the rest of the staff at Sequoia for an outstanding job hosting one of the JTBA’s favorite stops.

In the ladies division, New Kensington PA’s Bethan McGeary captured her first title of the season, with a 196-162 victory over Springfield OH’s Jessica Baker in the title match. McGeary was the one of only three bowlers in the field, and the only girl to average 200 in the event, leading qualifying at +27. Third and fourth place finishers were Jessica Fleck of Kettering OH and Alyshia John of Wadsworth OH respectively. Bethan also captured the tournaments high game with 246.

On the guys side, it was a battle of Pennsylvanians in the title match, as Tim Pfeifer of Cranberry Twp captured his second title of the season over four time titlist Adam Metzger of Erie. Pfeifer punched his ticket to the finals with a 2-0 victory over North Braddock PA’s Richard Galya. Galya had shot the tournaments high game of 256 in the Round of 8, but failed to find that form against Pfeifer. Metzger, who came from the #15 seed, swept Steve Sullivan of Boardman OH in his semi-final. The title match was a back and forth battle, but in the end it was Pfeifer who managed to put together key doubles for a 215-184 victory. Pfeifer was the leading qualifier at +68. Joe Hostetler of Minerva OH was the only other boy plus, qualifying second at +21.

Thanks once again to Isaly’s, and Dyno-Thane for their continued support, as well as all the parents and guests for their support of our 50/50 and ball raffles. We are still actively seeking sponsors for this as well as next season, and all sponsorship dollars are returned 100% in the form of scholarships. Please contact a JTBA Board Member if you know of anyone who would like to help out and receive some great exposure via our mailings, as well as our website.

We have extended the shirt order deadline until November 20 due to the large number of members who have yet to order. Any members who have yet to submit a shirt order form should contact the JTBA office to order by that date.

Our next event will be the annual JTBA Adult-Junior Doubles Championship on December 3 at Southwyck Lanes in Toledo. This popular event is usually a very large event, with lots of scholarship funds being awarded. Any same sex USBC-Adult Member is eligible to bowl as an adult, with the exception of 2006-2007 Denny’s PBA Tour Exempt Players. Please enter early! If anyone, youth or adult, is in need of a partner, please either e-mail, or call the JTBA office, and we will do our best to match everyone up. Hope to see everyone in Toledo!
