129 players took on the 34 ft Stockholm pattern at the 2011 JTBA New Glass Bowl Open in Toledo on Sunday May 1, 2011. 78 boys and 41 girls were the guests of Ronnie Schultz and staff who along with Brunswick Loaded Revolver, Jay Young's Varsity Lanes, Isaly' and Fairfield Inn of Toledo sponsored this event!! A big thanks to these supporters as we were able to award over $3500 in scholarships for the day!!! Samantha Johnson of Wyoming, MI. was able to stave off a strong girls field to capture her 1st JTBA title. Johnson reached the final by defeating Sarah Lokker of New Baltimore, MI. in a wild semi-final with Johnson needing the high game of the day a 266 to hold off Lokker who had 245. In the other semi it was Notre Dame College player Christie Hegedus of Brook Park, OH. edging out 2011 Junior Team USA member Addileen Pointer of Highland, MI. 174-172. It was Johnson taking advantage of a 4th frame Brooklyn to string 4 in a row thru the 7th then marking out to hang on for the title, as Hegedus got the 1st strike in the 10th but needed a double , the final 210 to 204!! High qualifier was pointer at +15. Cut to the top 16 to make matchplay was -113.
It took a qualifying score of +20 to make matchplay on the boys side as Trent Mitchell of Cleveland, OH. was our top seed at +142. Kodie Stout had the high game for the gentleman with a perfect Sport Bowling 300 game in the 1st round of matchplay!!! He followed it up with a 268 in game 2 but would fall short of the 800 series finishing with a 181 for a fine 749!!!! Mitchell would fall in the 1st round to open the door for the other finalists to compete for the crown. Charles Easton of Sylvania, OH. 2011 Collegiate 1st Team All-American and Collegiate of the Rookie of the Year made his way to the Championship final by striking out in the 10th frame to get passed Chris Lane of Columbus, OH. winning 218 to 212. He would square off against Brad Johnson of Troy, OH. who bested #2 seed Ricky Vargo of Willowick, OH. 176-134. Easton garnered his 2nd JTBA title of the season as Johnson would error on three spare attempts and Easton converted the 2-4-10 in the 7th to take home the top prize 203-180.
