69 teams took to the lanes on Sunday April 10, 2011 at the beautiful Rebmans Recreation Center in Lorain, Ohio to challenge the 44ft London WTBA pattern. When all was done the players seemed to hold a distinct advantage over the conditions as 3 girls and 21 boys bested the 200 avg. threshold!!! Our thanks to Rick Rebman and his staff for the 5th year providing a great atmosphere and plenty of hospitality for our 128 guests. Also thanks to Brunswick and Jay Young of Varsity Lanes in Bowling Green for providing us with a ball for our raffle which enabled us to add $300 to this events scholarship fund!!! Also thanks to JTBA for adding another $600 giving us $900 added at this event!!!
In the girls division the team of Mary Wells of Westerville, OH and Nicole Mosesso of Centerville, Oh both went + to outpace the girls division in qualifying at +204. Mosesso at +111 and Wells at +93. Only other girl to go plus was Ashley Howe of Greensburg, PA at +24. It took a -56 to make the cut to matchplay. High Game for the ladies was a fine 277 by Kaila Ryan of Huber Heights, OH in game 6 of qualifying!!! Wells/ Mosesso would stumble in the Semi-finals falling to the 5th seeded Justine Anderson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Jerracah Heibel of Meadville, Pa 1-2, 160-213, 244-206 and 170-238. Matching up in the Championship with Anderson/Heibel would be #2 seed Kaila Ryan of Huber Heights, OH. and partner Kayla Cummings of Dayton, OH, who bested #3 seed Tori Decker of Van Wert, OH. and Crystal Boyer 2-1, 202-175, 213-224 and 254-181. In an epic battle of strikes it was Kayla-Kaila team winning a nail biter 237-233 over Anderson/ Heibel. Ryan/Cummings earned $600 for their victory!! Cummings 2nd JTBA title Ryan's 1st!!!!!!
In the boys division James Koss of Brighton, MI lead all qualifiers averaging 245, at +271. He was followed closely by Roby Leser of Midland, MI. at +260 with the days high game of 290 in the 1st game and a stellar 818 for the first 3. Leser and his partner Andrew Bauer of Bay City, MI lead the team event at +370. It took -83 to make matchplay!!! Leaders Leser/Bauer would reach the Championship by defeating Meeco Walker of East Cleveland, OH and his partner Reginald(Mr. Matchplay) Hawthorne of Cleveland, Ohio 212-177. Facing Leser/Bauer in the final, "Best Dressed Duo" award winners 2010 Team USA member Chris Via Springfield, OH and Jamie "Dapper" Robinson Westerville, OH who got past Koss and his partner, last months Cleveland Open champ Justin Netherland of Port Clinton, OH. Missed spares dashed the Koss/Netherland duo's hopes as they fell 226-205 setting up an awesome championship final. Via/Robinson hammered home a 6 bagger in frames 3 thru 9 to take advantage of a 4th frame big 4 by Leser/ Bauer to win 248-222 and take the $900 first place trophy!!! This was Via's 2nd JTBA title and Robinson's 1st.
