Wells and Netherland Win Titles in Wickliffe!!!

Sunday March 27, 2011 the second half of the JTBA regular season began at the beautiful Freeway Lanes of Wickliffe near Cleveland, Ohio for the 2011 version of the Cleveland Open. Scores were low as the players struggled on the tough 39 ft 2011 pattern from the Hoosier Classic Collegiate tournament!! Justin Netherland of Port Clinton, Ohio was the only player from the 110 player field to best the 200 mark, at +120 clearing the rest of the boys field by 140 pins. Maxx Tamburrino of Sandusky, Ohio was second at -20 aided by a near perfect 299 in the 11th game of qualifying to get the second seed in the Stepladder finals. 3rd seed was Wright State star Ryan Dobie of Springfield, OH at -30. Seeded 4th was Vandalia, Ohio's Eric Sacks at -46. The 5th player to reach the stepladdder had to be decided in a 1 game roll off as hometown favorite Ryan Ashby of Madison, Ohio tied with University of Toledo ace Jon Myers of Swanton, Ohio tied at -79. Myers would strike often in the roll of to best Ashby 244-160 to move on!!! Myers then struggled but survived Sacks in the 1st match 175-168.
Next up was Dobie posting a 223 with Myers needing a double in the 10th to win. It was not to be as Myers came up just short at 218. Dobie then moved on to face 2nd seed Tamburrino but a missed spare in the 8th frame by Max open the door for Dobie to advance 201-189. Netherland and Dobie exchanged some Brooklyn's and late trip 4's but Netherland finished with a timely turkey to take home the hardware and the $800 1st prize 214-198.
