JTBA Imperial Lanes Open (5/3/2009)

The JTBA held its next to last 2008-2009 regular season event at Ducat’s Imperial Lanes in Toledo, OH, bidding farewell to a center that is rich in bowling history, with many unforgettable PBA, PWBA, and amateur events taking place throughout the last 40 years. Our thanks go out to Tony and his staff for adding to the scholarship fund at this final event at Imperial. The center will close on May 15, 2009 to make way for a new hospital to be built on the property. JTBA will certainly miss this center as they always did a great job of being an event host.

89 of the finest youth bowlers in the Midwest USA were treated to the “Deadmans Curve” sport pattern on Imperial’s ProLane synthetic surface. JTBA bowlers are certainly improving their sport pattern skills as we had 26 boys and 4 girls average over 200. Qualifying leaders were Megan Seavey of Fenton, MI at a whopping +150 for the girls and the winner of our last two JTBA events, Eric Bracken of Brighton, MI at +176. The field avg was 179 for the girls and 197 for the boys. High games for the even went to Seavey at 269 for girls and on the boys side, Josh Thompson of Belle Vernon, PA was almost perfect with a 297 followed by Bracken at 290. Felicia GollFelicia Goll

Cut for match play for the girls was -69 to reach the round of 8. Seavey bowled well in matchplay but was out struck by JTBA veteran and 3 time JTBA champion Felicia Goll of St. Clair Shores, MI 244-216, 212-231 and 209-173, in the semi final. This put Goll in the final match to go against fellow Michigan star Kara Richard of Tecumseh . Richard reaching the championship by besting last years JTBA Rookie of the Year Mary Wells of Westerville, OH 182-178 and 232-176. This set up a title match between bowling buddies and travel partners, so the trip home was going to be a bummer for one of these two!! In a great match, Felicia prevailed in 3 well contested games. 237-214, 225-215 and a nail biter finish 186-184.

On the boys side it took +62 to reach the round of 16 for matchplay. When the dust settled from some high scoring matches, the final four were Kodie Stout of Vickery, OH , Nicolas Sutherland of Grand Blanc, MI., newcomer Erik Stanley of Sterling Heights, MI and Bracken, with Bracken being the only JTBA champion in the final four. Stout bested Stanley in two game 224-202 and 213-196 to advance, while Sutherland and Bracken took the long road with a great three gamer. It was Sutherland gaining entry to the finals 190-195, 204-199 and 237-205. The finals were held on lanes 25 and 26, the PBA television pair at Imperial for years and Sutherland’s great shot making was too much for a sore fingered two handed Stout, who struggled with a couple of single pin spares. Sutherland would go on to win in two, 234-200 and 225-212. Congratulations to Nicolas on his first ever JTBA title. Nicolas SutherlandNicolas Sutherland
