The JTBA made its annual trip to Beaver Vu Bowl and Dayton OH for the JTBA Dayton Open. 107 of the midwests finest youth bowlers entered to test their skills against Kegel’s Highway to Hell Pattern, in what was a USBC Sport Bowling Certified event. We’d like to thank Wendy and her staff at Beaver Vu for hosting, and their cooperation and assistance in certifying this event and taking tapes.
As advertised, accuracy was a necessary part of the event, with a score of +52 leading on the guys side, by Adam Jablonski. Jablonski also had the high game of the tournament at 279. The ladies side was led by Hedi Sanders, with a score of -48.
After lunch, Jablonski continued his roll, taking a 6-0 match play record into the final match, defeating Brandon White in the semi-finals. He would meet Westerville OH’s Mark Mantle, who defeated Michael Jacobs of Canton MI in his semi-final match. The final match was a back and forth matchup, with Mantle handing Jablonski his first defeat of the event in game one, before Jablonski took game two, setting up an exciting one game match for the title. In a match which summed up the entire event, spares were crucial in a medium scoring match, which Mantle would win 215-198, claiming his long awaited first career title and the $600 first prize.
Champions Mark Mantle and Sarah Germano
On the girls side, leader Heidi Sanders marched her way to the title match by defeating 2009 Jr Team USA Member Kim Yioulos 2-1 in the first round, and then escaped another close match with Kara Richard to advance to the final. In the other half of the bracket, current Jr Team USA Member and #2 seed Sarah Germano marched her way through Chelsea Gillam and Kayla Blanchard, to enter the final undefeated. Germano would continue her roll in the finals, defeating Sanders 2-0, to claim her 3rd career title, and the $300 first prize.
Our next event will be the second of our four Sport Bowling Events this year, as tapes will be taken to ensure compliance with USBC Sport Bowling Rules. Cedar Lanes and Sandusky will be hosting the annual Sport Bowling Challenge on September 28th , and we will be employing our alternate format for this event. All entrants will be bowling a 6 game qualifying block on a short oil pattern, before cutting to the top 50% in both divisions who will return for a second 6 game block on a long oil pattern. The top 4 girls and 5 boys will then advance to our stepladder finals, in which the high seed in each match will choose the pattern. Sport Bowling membership is not required to bowl the event, however is necessary to receive Sport Bowling Awards in the case of any honor scores. This event is limited to the first 96 prepaid entries, so be sure to enter early. Phone calls and emails will not be guaranteed spots in this event. Additionally, we are enclosing entry forms for our October event, the Isaly’s Open hosted by Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus. We look forward to our first event on the new lanes at Sequoia, and that will be another Sport Bowling Event. Additionally, that event will also be limited to 96 entries.
We hope to see everyone in Sandusky!
